CLIENT OVERVIEW

A world leader in water treatment solutions, Our Client specializes in the development, engineering, construction and operation of desalination, water reuse, and industrial water treatment plants.

Reports to: VP Global O&M

Location: Main office in Carlsbad with weekly visits to Santa Barbara and other operation sites as needed

Direct Reports: Plant Managers, Compliance and Safety, HR, Finance

POSITION SUMMARY

The Managing Director of OPS oversees the Operations of Our Client’s Americas plants. The main focus is on smooth operations of the Carlsbad Plant, and the Santa Barbara Plant and additional future facilities. The MANAGING DIRECTOR OF OPS focuses on the strategic level planning, contractual, and commercial operation management, while the Plants Managers focus on the tactical day-to-day plant activities. The Role’s focus is on meeting the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Agreement requirements while developing win-win relations with the customers and partners of Our Client.

KEY ACTIVITIES

O&M Contracts

  • Operations safety – safe operating environment in all Our Client Americas operation sites

  • Manage and approve purchasing of plant equipment.

  • Troubleshooting of problems and failures and implementing across-plan solutions.

  • Meeting all contractual and regulatory requirements (reporting, health, environment, sanitation, etc.)

  • Diligent budget management while keeping and exceeding the profit margins set for each plant.

  • Plant yearly budget development, approval, and management

  • Construction and Maintenance plans approval

  • Managing Claims, change orders and capital investment projects in plants.

  • Managing and overseeing preventive maintenance plans and adhering to highest safety standards.

Human Resources

  • Maximizing operational employee’s retention and growth with the company

  • Overall responsibility over recruiting, training, performance, appraisal, hiring, benefits, employee development, and termination of operations teams.

Customer Management

  • Keeping cooperative and amiable relations with customers

  • Strong crisis management skills and legal dispute avoidance, while maintaining the short- and long-term commercial interests of Our Client.

  • Involvement in additional ongoing projects as needed.

  • Oversee Regulatory activities and compliance and communications.

Legal Representative of Our Client in Country / Region

  • Representing Our Client as Legal Rep. of country / region in front of all regulatory bodies

  • Legal rep. of Our Client vs. financial institutes

  • Legal rep. of Our Client for all EHS issues within country

  • Legal rep. of Our Client for all HR issues within country

For all above will work with professional leads from HQ of Our Client - Finance, Legal, HR, Project management

INTERFACES WITHIN OUR CLIENT

Working with Headquarter Departments on related tasks

  • O&M production and maintenance yearly plan approval and changes

  • Design and Engineering

  • Plants improvements & expansion (capital improvement)

  • Purchase orders approval over certain budget

  • Global O&M activities

  • Reports as will be defined and required

  • Participation in Global O&M improvement program (GLOCAL)

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Develop, manage and maintain the annual target budget.

  • Oversee the organization’s operations and ensure achievement of yearly production quantities.

  • Maximizing income from the existing clients while adhering to agreements

  • Manage customer expectations to ensure customer satisfaction while avoiding legal disputes and ensuring contract extensions.

  • Provide a positive working environment for employees while increasing satisfaction, morale, and commitment to Our Client.

  • Develop and identify effective strategies that would increase the business profitability.

  • Develop and Maintain Safety, Regulations and Licenses as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 10 years of operation management experience in the water domain including plant management and supervising an organization of tens of employees, with at least five direct reports.

  • Approved and managed O&M and Capital Investment budgets in the tens of millions of dollars.

  • Customer facing/ customer relation experience and ability to articulate and advocate interests and requirements clearly and effectively.

  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, organization, interpersonal, and motivational skills, and the ability to multi-task, while performing each individual task to perfection.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in writing, verbally, interpersonally, and in presentations.

  • Demonstrated experience in process improvement, and operational efficiency experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field mandatory, advanced degree is a plus.

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and plans.

  • Registered as a T5 Operator a plus.

  • Experience and managerial ability, skill in harnessing employees and managers outside of authority relations, ability to withstand pressure, human relations, ability to express themselves verbally and in writing, with high political sensitivity.

  • Practical experience as a manager in an industrial enterprise, responsibility for P&L and interfaces with authorities.

COMPENSATION

  • Base Salary: $200-240K
